Officials of the oil company ENI were recently in Côte d'Ivoire. A stay during which it was announced the start of exploitation of the Baleine deposit with Côte d'Ivoire, with an ambition to produce zero carbon.

The Baleine deposit is a deposit of around 1.5 to 2 billion barrels and around 2,000 billion cubic meters of gas. Production is expected to start in 2023. Until then, Abidjan produced only 30,000 barrels per day.

To achieve the goal of zero carbon deposits; a system will be set up to compensate for emissions due to the exploitation of the deposit, which will go through the preservation of natural carbon sinks, such as forests or mangroves, or even their increase.
