Cotton production, for example, increased by 8%. It went from 714,714 tonnes in 2019 to 731,073 tonnes in 2020. For the Minister of Agriculture Gaston Dossouhoui, had it not been for the vagaries of the weather, this performance would have been even better. "We could have done much better if the rains were there," he said at the start of the work. The Minister then insisted on this low rainfall over the past year. According to him, there was 980 mm of rain in 53 days against 1225 mm in 78 days in 2019. These climatic constraints did not reward the efforts of producers at their fair value. As for the cashew and pineapple sectors, the results were also encouraging. Cashew production increased by 6% and that of pineapple by 3.6%. In general, the agricultural Gross Domestic Product was not in deficit last year. It rose 1.8%.
