The 2020-2021 cocoa campaign was hit by a drop of 12.8 tonnes in the quantity processed by artisanal units. Statistics compiled by the National Cocoa and Coffee Office (ONCC) indicate that only 82.7 tonnes of beans were processed by local units, down 12.8 tonnes from the previous season.

Artisanal cocoa processing declined in Cameroon during the 2020-2021 campaign, which ended on July 15, 2021. This decline in the performance of artisanal grinders contrasts with the good performance of industrialists, whose bean processing has growth by 3.3%, since it peaked at 62,341 tonnes during the campaign under review. An improvement that the ONCC attributes to the arrival on the market of “a fifth processing unit”. In its end-of-campaign report, the ONCC counted 34 artisanal processing units, which produced 66.7 tonnes of caramel, cocoa butter and cake. This corresponds to a drop of just over 7 tonnes of products from primary processing, compared to the previous season.
