The supervising Minister Paul Valentin Ngobo presented to the departmental heads of agriculture a new cocoa development policy. This policy aims to revitalize the sector.

The Congolese government wants to rehabilitate the old plantation sites, through an agricultural policy centered on the organization of peasant groups. State plantations and several hectares of cocoa formerly held by local producers are almost abandoned. The forest regions of Sangha and Likouala are home to expanses of cocoa plantations whose harvests are exported via the Cameroonian market. Some localities in Cuvette (Makoua, Owando) and Kouilou (Mvouti district) also produce cocoa. The planters and the workforce are willing to work to boost the sector, reassures the agricultural departmental director of Likouala, Gamard Diahouakou. For the last harvest, for example, the small farmers produced more than 450 tons which were marketed to the Democratic Republic of Congo. As in the Cuvette, planters are waiting for support from the government to improve their productivity.
