The Project to Promote Cocoa Production Without Deforestation to Reduce Emissions in Côte d'Ivoire (PROMIRE) is entering its active phase. The Ivorian authorities and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) launched the works on Tuesday July 27, 2021.

The PROMIRE project will support the finalization and operationalization of the REDD+ architecture by strengthening institutional capacities to ensure effective implementation of the tools at national and regional levels, the development of new low-carbon agricultural models through the promotion zero deforestation agriculture. At a cost of $10 million, it is financed by the Green Climate Fund and is being implemented over five years in Côte d'Ivoire over the period 2021-2026. According to Lieutenant-Colonel Ahoulou Kouamé, permanent executive secretary of REED+, the objective is to ensure that the tree now coexists with cocoa and other crops.

The FAO representative in Côte d'Ivoire, Samy Gaiji clarified that this project aims to complete the first phase of REDD+ in Côte d'Ivoire and to participate significantly in the investment phase on the ground.
