The Interprofessional Council of the Coffee-Cocoa Sectors of Togo (CICC-Togo) organized with the technical and financial support of the Coordinating Committee for the Coffee and Cocoa Sectors (CCFCC) and the Technical Unit of Coffee and Cocoa (UTCC) an awareness campaign for coffee and cocoa producers in the municipality of Blitta 3.

Coffee-Cocoa producers in the prefecture of Blitta (about 267 km north of Lomé) have been made aware of the positive impact of frequent maintenance on the productivity of their plantations. The campaign was placed under the theme “Importance of routine maintenance on the productivity of coffee and cocoa plantations in Togo”. The objective is to support producers in their orchard management activities to create a framework for sharing difficulties and discussing issues and new challenges and market requirements. At least 4,000 producers will benefit from this support. The discussions revolved around the respect of good agricultural practices in the management of the orchards, in order to significantly improve their productivity. The participants were encouraged to do the routine maintenance of the plantations: clean the field, remove the suckers that come out on the plants, do the treatments between June and July, for the first time, and between December and January for a second time. Pruning the cocoa tree allows ventilation in the plantation and solar radiation and fattening for good production.
