In the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, the Ivorian government decided to allocate 20% of exports of coffee and cocoa beans to national exporters and processors. The latter are experiencing serious economic difficulties in the sustainability of their activities. The Ivorian government has adopted a communication relating to the difficulties encountered by Ivorian exporters and processors of coffee and cocoa, who are experiencing enormous financial difficulties. According to government spokesman Amadou Coulibaly, this council decision aims to promote the emergence of national champions and create the conditions for the sustainability of their activity.

“Multinationals will have to systematically cede 20% of the volume of any release contract to domestic exporters and processors in the form of international contracts,” he said. Since the 2016-2017 marketing campaign, Ivorian operators involved in cocoa trading and processing have been experiencing severe economic and financial difficulties that have caused the disappearance of approximately 50% of these economic operators.
