The quality of Ivorian cotton was at the center of a workshop organized at the headquarters of the Ivorian company for the development of textiles (CIDT) in Bouaké from February 24 to 26, 2021.

On the initiative of the interprofessional agricultural organization of the cotton sector of Côte d'Ivoire (INTERCOTON), the actors of the cotton sector, in particular, the federations of producers, the cotton companies, the traders and the researchers of the CNRA, met to take stock and to propose areas for improving the quality of Ivorian cotton in order to make it more competitive on the international market.

"After successfully meeting the challenge of reviving production (from 120,000 tonnes in 2002 to 490,000 tonnes in 2020) with the support of the State and technical and financial partners, INTERCOTON now wants to tackle to that of quality to better promote Ivorian cotton on a very competitive international market,” said the PCA, Soro Moussa.

It was essentially a question of identifying not only the causes of the decline in the quality of seed cotton and cotton lint, the actors who interact on the quality of cotton in terms of research and the agricultural technical itinerary and determining the role of each, but also the actors who interact on the quality of cotton in terms of ginning, classification, marketing and determining the role of each. Also, the practical modalities for determining the choice of seed cotton quality have been defined.
