The tension has gone down a notch in the showdown between the world's two largest cocoa producers, Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana, and the multinationals (Read: Mars stands out from Hershey in the cocoa showdown with Ivory Coast and Ghana).

The Cocoa Coffee Council (CCC) of Côte d'Ivoire last Friday lifted the suspension of Hershey's sustainability programs in the country. Following a meeting between the Ivorian regulatory body and Hershey, the CCC was assured that the American chocolate maker would indeed pay the living income differential (LID) of $400 dollars per ton of cocoa intended to better remunerate the planters.

For now, the Cocobod in Ghana is not yet pronounced. Ghanaians are being called to the polls today for presidential and legislative elections. For the third time in ten years, outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo and John Mahama will face each other.
