The global pandemic does not seem to have impacted cotton production in Côte d'Ivoire. The Professional Association of Cotton Companies of Côte d'Ivoire (Aprocot-Ci) announced yesterday that cotton production should reach a record 520,000 tons in 2020-2021, or 6% more than in 2019/20.

An increase due to good weather conditions and an increase of 9% of sown area to 444,760 hectares. Farmers were encouraged by the high producer price, renewed at CFAF 300 per kilo.

On the other hand, Covid-19 and the confinement measures taken to contain it have destroyed world demand for cotton, which has put pressure on the cash flow of cotton companies by slowing exports. Some companies still have unsold volumes from the 2019/20 campaign.
