The Cooperative Society of Agricultural Producers of the Savannah Region
(COOPARES) proceeded Wednesday, in Kotouba (Nassian department), to the launch of an operation
purchase of cashew nuts at the farm gate price officially set at 400 FCFA/kg.
This operation, which will extend throughout the Zanzan district (North-East, Bounkani and
Gontougo), will be carried out with the technical support of the Cotton and Cashew Council.
It aims to proceed with the removal of cashew nuts from storage warehouses in all localities of the
district of Zanzan in order to fight against crooked buyers who buy the product at prices below
that set by the Ivorian Government.
According to Konaté Drissa, the coordinator of COOPARES activities, it is also for the
cooperative to help producers sell their products at the guaranteed minimum price in order to cope with the
coronavirus disease COVID-19 which has slowed down activities related to the marketing of cashew nuts.
“We are here to reassure our producer parents that we are fighting for them and we want the
good quality and we will make sure there will be no cashew kernels in stock at our parent's
producers,” he promised. He pointed out that several teams have been deployed on the ground for the
success of the operation.
