The 45th quarterly review of projects financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB) group in
Cameroon took place on November 14 and 15, 2019 in Douala. Overall, a positive result emerges
halfway through the execution of the various projects. In this case, the Project for the Extension and Strengthening of
electricity transmission and distribution networks (Preretd) and the Lom-Pangar hydroelectric project. the
first impacts eight regions (all of Cameroon apart from Adamaoua and the East), and has made it possible to improve
access to electricity for a large part of the population. The second will enable the commissioning of 30
megawatts of energy. The offer, which will be available by 2021 according to projections, should make it possible to satisfy
partly the needs of the Eastern region estimated at 60 megawatts.
During the works opened by Thierry Ki-Nou Nana, the secretary general of the Littoral region, Adrien
Simplice Towa, the representative of the CEO of Electricity Development Corporation (Edc), recalled "the impact
particular" of AfDB projects "on the lives of the people", and noted that one of the Bank's priorities, "
it is to enlighten Africa. And the projects we have at the EDC level bring electric power to
populations”. Subsequently, each of the parties is present and involved in development projects in
Cameroon has agreed either to work on reducing the time between the approval of an operation and its first
disbursement - which is on average two years instead of the planned 6 months - or to make real progress
in the mobilization of counterpart funds and in the quality of the files transmitted to the AfDB.
"It is for this reason that we must work together, for greater efficiency of our actions in order to
to improve the quality of operations and their implementation", indicated the representative of the AfDB, Dr Claude
N'Kodia. The AfDB finances 35 projects in Cameroon for an envelope estimated at 1540.9 billion F, in
areas as diverse as governance, energy and transport.
