Niger and the African Development Bank (AfDB) have signed two financing agreements. A CFAF 70 billion envelope for the development of road infrastructure and another CFAF 789.5 million for the agricultural sector.

The first agreement, worth more than CFAF 70 billion, concerns the development of road infrastructure in accordance with WAEMU standards. The second financing agreement, with an envelope of 789.5 million CFA francs, concerns the agriculture and agri-food sector.

This support targets the Integrated Project to open up the Hamdara-Wacha-Doungass-Nigeria border production areas, which consists of the development and asphalting of 110 km of road to WAEMU standards using an integrated approach. This approach covers not only the transport sector but also agriculture, livestock and the social sector (health, education and gender). The total cost of this project is estimated at CFAF 91.05 billion, of which the AfDB is contributing CFAF 71.05 billion, the Planning Minister said.

The second project financed by the AfDB is the Support Project for the Development of a Strategy and National Action Plan for Decent Employment of Youth in the Agriculture and Agribusiness Sectors in Niger. It aims to promote job creation in the agricultural and agribusiness sectors in Niger.
