Niger has obtained 127 million dollars from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to open up the east of the country. This financing consists of a loan of 71 million dollars and a donation of 56.8 million dollars.

The financial support was approved by the Board of Directors of the African Development Fund, the AfDB Group's concessional window. The project, concerning the municipalities of Hamdara, Wacha and Dungass in the Zinder region, mainly aims to develop and asphalt 110 kilometers of road. It should reduce the travel time along this axis very used by heavy goods vehicles.

According to the African Development Bank, the creation of approximately 60,000 direct and indirect jobs is expected during the construction phase of this section. At the same time, related developments will be carried out. These include "the rehabilitation and construction of socio-economic infrastructure, the construction of 150 kilometers of rural tracks and five kilometers of roads in Dungass," said the Pan-African financial institution.
