In its March 8 special publication, Financial Afrik lists 17 women leaders who are making a name for themselves in the finance sector.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) is the first woman to hold the post of Minister of Finance in Nigeria from 2003 to 2006 and from 2011 to 2015. In 2021, she becomes Director General of the World Trade Organization. Okonjo-Iweala becomes both the first African and the first woman to hold the post. Leila Fourie, President of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) has been at the head of the JSE since October 1, 2019. Also on this list is Vera Songwe, Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) since April 2017; Malangu Kabedi Mbuyi, first governor of the Central Bank of Congo (BCC) since its creation in the 1960s; Nezha Hayat, President of AMMC (Morocco) and Bola Adesola, Chairman of the Board of Ecobank Nigeria.

Under women shaking up the finance sector in Africa Financial also lists; Amani Abou-Zeid, Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy of the African Union Commission; Evelyne Tall-Daouda, Chairman of the Board of Directors of CGF Bourse; Delphine Traoré Maïdou, CEO of Allianz Africa; Rosemary Beryl Archer, Deputy Managing Director of Ghana Exim Bank (GEXIM); Yalis Sané, Director of Human Capital and Communication of the COFINA Group; Gisèle Mwepu, Founder & Ceo Okapi Finance International; Leila Bouamatou, Managing Director of Banque de Mauritanie; GRAH LINDA-CAROLE, Syndication and Sales Manager at HUDSON & CIE; Marufatu Abiola Bawuah, Managing Director of United Bank for Africa; Saida NEGHZA, President of the General Confederation of Algerian Enterprises (CGEA); Samantha Ramsamy, journalist at RT France.
