To face its next challenges, Sierra Leone wants to mobilize more funding, thanks to its foreign partners. Thus, the country will benefit from funding of more than 278.4 million dollars from the European Union (EU) to finance its development.

This grant will extend over four years and will be intended to support the West African country in three sectors considered to be priorities. The first is the green economy. In this area, the EU-Sierra Leone partnership aims to improve "access to modern, sustainable, affordable and reliable energy for jobs and growth, on the development of sustainable and employment-oriented food systems in the areas of agriculture and fisheries for health and nutrition”.

It also aims to support “the sustainable management and protection of terrestrial and marine ecosystems and biodiversity”. The second targeted sector is the development of human capital. With regard to democratic governance, human rights and fundamental freedoms, cooperation will pay particular attention to the organization of transparent and inclusive elections in the country and to "the effectiveness of government and the delivery of public services to national and local levels”.
