More than 2,500 complaints were recorded in Burkina Faso in 2021. These acts of cybercrime are valued at more than one billion CFA francs.

With the rise of e-commerce and the covid-19 pandemic, social networks are increasingly becoming the theater of action for cybercrime. In an interview granted to lefaso.net, Julien Legma, head of service in charge of police collaboration within the central brigade for the fight against cybercrime (BCLCC) indicated that the overall damage amounted to more than 20 million CFA francs. “By way of illustration, we can note that during the year 2021, the brigade recorded more than 2,500 complaints related to the phenomenon of cybercrime, with a loss amounting to more than 1 billion CFA francs. And among these offences, the cyber-scam component amounts to more than 1,000 complaints,” he explained. According to him, cases of fraud through e-commerce necessarily appear there and have caused damage of nearly 850 million CFA francs during the year 2021.
