In Benin, e-commerce sites and GAFAM must now pay taxes. There will now be VAT on transactions made through e-commerce platforms.

The new general tax code in Benin does not spare the e-commerce sector. Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple and Microsoft, the famous GAFAMs will now pay taxes to the public treasury as well as national e-commerce platforms. In short, services, sales of goods and other transactions taking place via e-commerce sites will no longer escape taxes. This is a measure that is part of the broadening of the tax base. Electronic platforms do not need to have their head office in Benin to be taxed.
