The African Development Bank (AfDB) has decided to release 3 billion dollars, or 1,764 billion CFA francs to strengthen the continent's pharmaceutical industry. The announcement was made by its President, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina.

Africa must have the capacity to manage everything related to Covid-19 by being able to carry out tests, to have access to vaccines, but also to be able to produce them on site. Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank has decided to make available to the continent the sum of 3 billion dollars to strengthen the African pharmaceutical industry. Akinwumi Adesina estimated between 80 and 95% the rate of imports of pharmaceutical products, while there is "a concentration" of diseases in Africa such as Malaria, AIDS, Yellow Fever or Ebola.
