As part of the Government Action Program (PAG 2) unveiled on Thursday January 6, 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aurélien Agbénonci announced the establishment of a free trade area with Nigeria by 2026 This measure aims to boost relations between Benin and Nigeria.

During a recent media release, Minister Aurélien Agbénonci announced the creation of a common free trade area in Benin and Nigeria. The President decided that "we can set up this free trade area where we are going to have some particular agreements, where we are going to agree on details because we have realized that when we exchange with our friends Nigeria, when certain details are not settled with them, we cannot move forward," he said. In addition, Agbénonci announces that the 14 embassies that have become regional hubs due to Benin's new diplomatic map will continue to promote the country.
