The launch of this merger project is expected in 2023. Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta stressed that the two airlines will combine their operations to form "a pan-African airline". The deal between Kenya Airways and South African Airways was reportedly struck during the Kenyan head of state's two-day visit to South Africa late last month, the sources said. The two loss-making airlines currently depend on cash injections from the state coffers to stay afloat.
