The National Roads Authority of Uganda and the World Road Association organized a webinar on the theme “Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience of Road Networks (in Low and Middle Income Countries)”. During the exchanges, experts urged African countries to invest in roads that are resilient to the impacts of climate change.

Discussions during the three-day event focused on the challenges, opportunities and innovations for building infrastructure to withstand the increase in extreme weather events on the continent. Dr. Olufunso Somorin, African Development Bank Regional Manager for East Africa said Africa is “positively disadvantaged” as only 17% of the needed road infrastructure on the continent has been built.

Participants largely agreed that building resilient roads requires the involvement of different stakeholders, including ministries, development partners, civil society, the private sector and communities.
