BCEAO data reveals that the net deterioration rate of non-performing loans in WAEMU banks and financial institutions increased slightly by 0.3 percentage points at the end of September 2021 compared to the same period of 2020 .

This deterioration rate stood at 4.4% against 4.1% in September 2020. Compared to June 2021 when it stood at 4.00%, the deterioration rate of outstanding debts has also a quarterly increase of 0.4 percentage points. Net customer loans amounted to 25,097.3 billion FCFA against 22,886.7 billion in September 2020, an increase of 2,210.62 billion FCFA. For their part, net outstanding loans stood at 1093 billion FCFA against 927.1 billion FCFA in September 2020, an increase of 165.91 billion FCFA.

Regarding gross loans to customers, their amount stood at 27,135.5 billion FCFA (against 24,855.2 billion in September 2020). Of this amount, gross overdue loans amount to 3131.3 billion FCFA (against 2895.6 billion FCFA in September 2020). Provisions constituted by banks and financial institutions amounted to 2038.3 billion FCFA against 1968.5 billion FCFA. This gives a coverage rate of gross overdue loans by the provisions set aside of 65.1% compared to 68.0% in September 2020, i.e. a drop of 2.9 percentage points.
