The Board of the African Development Bank approves a new water strategy for the period from 2021 to 2025. The four pillars of this mechanism will make it possible to provide countries with the financial and technical support necessary for universal access to drinking water.

“Towards a water-secure Africa” is the watchword of the experts of the Pan-African bank, which aims to promote the integrated development and management of the water sector in Africa. The five-year strategy aims to increase water security and foster sustainable, green and inclusive growth and development in Africa. In a press release, the AfDB explains that the four pillars of the Water Strategy emphasize the importance of water and sanitation for socio-economic development; sustainability, resilience and inclusiveness; food production and nutrition; and hydroelectricity. The strategy aligns with the Bank's High 5s and thus also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union's Agenda 2063. The five-year strategy, approved on November 17, 2021, aims to increase water security in Africa and foster its sustainable, green and inclusive socio-economic growth and development. More than 100 Bank stakeholders contributed to the development of the Strategy, which the Bank's Board described as exemplary.
