The AfDB presented its new health infrastructure strategy to the ECOWAS Ministers of Health. Representing Bank Group President Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina at the event, African Development Bank Vice President Dr. Beth Dunford explained that the strategy focuses on three categories. He listed primary health care infrastructure for underserved populations; the development of new secondary and tertiary health care facilities alongside specialist facilities for cancer diagnosis and treatment, dialysis and pain management; and building diagnostic infrastructure for effective and efficient diagnosis of diseases across Africa. "Covid-19 is a wake-up call about the central role of health systems and infrastructure for inclusive economic growth," said Beth Dunford. The new strategy involves policy dialogue and technical assistance on effective financing strategies, including the extension of health insurance.
