According to the Chairman of the Orientation Council of the Financial Services Quality Observatory (OQSF), Momar Diop, the fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) is a major challenge with regard to its adverse effects on economic and financial stability. He made this statement on Monday while chairing the work of a capacity building session on the fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism (AML / CFT) which opened in Saly-Portudal ( Mbour, west).

At the initiative of members of the Collective of Economic Journalists of Senegal (COJES), the two-day session is devoted to the fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism (AML/FT). This activity was organized in partnership with the Intergovernmental Action Group against Money Laundering in Africa (GIABA), the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), the National Information Processing Unit financial (CENTIF). "Despite the numerous initiatives carried out by monetary authorities and supervisory bodies, AML/CFT remains a major challenge in the ecosystem with regard to the adverse effects on economic and financial stability", he declared the President. from the OQSF, Momar Diop.

He underlined that at the sub-regional level, several actions undertaken within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) resulted in the creation, on November 3, 2000, of GIABA, responsible for promoting anti-money laundering legislation and to facilitate the coordination of the activities of ECOWAS Member States in this area. At the level of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), several regulatory and institutional provisions have also been amended, continued Mr. Diop.
