The value of electronic money transactions in the Uemoa is estimated at 20,451.66 billion FCFA at the end of December 2020. The electronic money sector in the Union is mainly dominated by electronic money institutions.

At the end of December 2020, the number of transactions via electronic money accounts stood at 1.74 billion representing a value of 20,451.66 billion CFA francs against 1.16 billion operations for a value of 12,346.56 billion CFA francs at the end of June 2020, i.e. increases of 50% in volume and 65.65% in value. According to the BCEAO, which provides the information in the "Semi-annual report on the monitoring of payment means and services at the end of December 2020", this progress recorded at the level of all operators is explained by the diversification of digital financial services offers (opening new transfer corridors, bank to wallet and wallet to bank (B2W/W2B) services, fundraising, etc.); the arrival of new players on the market; the continuation of efforts to digitize State payments and the continued support of populations for mobile financial services.
