Health insurance will be compulsory for everyone in Benin, from January 2022. This is what is stated in article 17 of law n ° 2020- 37 of February 03, 2021 on the protection of the health of people in the Republic of Benin .

Health insurance will be implemented by the Insurance project for the Reinforcement of Human Capital (ARCH) managed by the National Agency for Social Protection (ANPS), a structure under the supervision of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Microfinance. According to article 17 of the law “Health insurance is compulsory for all persons residing in the national territory. This compulsory health insurance guarantees a basket of basic care defined by decree issued by the Council of Ministers”. Other details have been provided by articles 18 and 19. According to article 18 “Public or private employers subscribe, entirely at their own expense, to compulsory health insurance for their personnel. The self-employed take out compulsory health insurance for their own account”. "The health insurance of people recognized as extreme or non-extreme poor is taken out by the State according to the procedures defined by decree taken by the Council of Ministers", stipulates article 19 of law n ° 2020-37 of February 03, 2021 on protection of people's health in the Republic of Benin.
