The partnership between Crédit Mutuel du Sénégal (CMS) and the Dutch investment company Oikocredit dates back to 2007. Oikocredit, for example, granted a loan of 5 million euros (5.8 million dollars) to CMS.

The loan will serve to reinforce CMS's leading position in the market, having emerged from the Covid-19 crisis in a stronger position than most of its competitors, increasing its outreach to women and young people. This envelope focuses on rural and agricultural income-generating activities. With an outstanding portfolio of 225 million euros at the end of 2020, CMS is one of the most important microfinance institutions in Senegal. The group claims more than 1.3 million customers and members, and has a network of more than 220 branches. According to CMS Managing Director Amadou Jean-Jacques Diop, the shared interest in financial inclusion and the sustainable improvement of living conditions for low-income people makes it easier and more attractive for CMS and Oikocredit to work together.
