The biomass potential in Côte d'Ivoire is considerable. Thus, the country announces a production of 748 MW of electricity thanks to biomass by 2030.

In Côte d'Ivoire, biomass, all “green waste” floods farms. The Ivorian biomass potential is estimated at nearly 12,000,000 tonnes (t) per year. It focuses on cashew nuts (shells, cashew apples), cassava (peelings), cocoa (pods, cocoa bean shells), palm oil (palm leaves) and rubber (residues of felling, rubber seeds). Raw materials at the origin of the development of many biomass power plant projects on the Ivorian territory. Discarded and abandoned, this waste could in the near future have much more value for farmers. And for good reason, nearly 15 biomass power plants are planned in Côte d'Ivoire and would generate approximately 750 MW of electricity. Côte d'Ivoire's National Renewable Energy Action Plan (PANER; 2016-2030) reveals that biomass includes "biodegradable products, waste and residues of biological origin from agriculture, forestry or associated industries, in particular fishing and aquaculture, as well as the biodegradable part of industrial and municipal waste”.
