The special prosecutor of the Court of repression of economic offenses and terrorism (Criet) revealed the seizure of 10.5 kg of pure heroin passed through Cotonou airport. This is the third procedure conducted by this special court in six months. 15 days ago, 2.5 tonnes of cocaine were discovered in a warehouse. Last May, 145 kg of cocaine were seized at the port in a container. In this last case, Benin, moreover, formulated an extradition request against the importer, a Frenchman, arrested in Morocco.

It appeared that they benefited from the complicity of police and water and forest officials, on duty at Cotonou International Airport. They were therefore all arrested. A total of ten people involved in this trafficking have been charged. According to the special prosecutor of the Court for the Suppression of Economic Crimes and Terrorism (Criet), Mario Metonou, the final recipient of the product, as well as the other members of what appears to be an organized network, have already been identified. and are the subject of active research.
