On the sidelines of a seminar organized at the School of African Heritage (EPA), the project "Sites and Museums for the development of territories (SMDT)" was launched last week. Supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts of Benin and the French Embassy in Benin, this 2-year project has a budget of 498,500,000 FCFA.

The implementation of the “Sites and Museums for the Development of Territories” (SMDT) project is ensured by a dozen institutional and civil society actors who lead initiatives covering the various axes and sites identified. Three towns with a tourist vocation are hosting the said project. These are Abomey, Ouidah and Porto-Novo. It strives to promote a network of heritage and culture actors, by promoting awareness and education about tangible and intangible heritage. The project will also promote the animation of sites and museums around heritage and living culture through actions to professionalize operators.
