The outstanding balance of loans from the decentralized financial systems (SFD) of the West African Monetary Union (WAMU) increased last June by 12.4% compared to its level at the end of June 2018, according to a new report by BCEAO. This outstanding amounted to 1,431.9 billion FCFA, specifies the Bank in its report on the situation of microfinance in the Union as of June 30, 2019. "This increase was noted in Mali (+ 16.4%) , in Burkina (+14.0%), in Senegal (+14.0%), in Ivory Coast (+13.8%), in Togo (+11.6%) and in Benin (+5, 1%). On the other hand, outstanding financing decreased by 44.8% and 4.9%, respectively in Guinea-Bissau and Niger", observes the report. He points out that “for the sector as a whole, outstanding loans represent 6.7% of loans granted by credit institutions in the Union”. Regarding DFS in difficulty, "sixteen microfinance institutions were under provisional administration at the end of June 2019": five in Benin, three in Niger, two in Burkina, two in Senegal, two in Togo, one in Côte d'Ivoire and one in mali. The number of SFDs in WAMU was 507 units at the end of June 2019. The report notes a slight decrease in people's access to financial services provided by microfinance institutions by 0.7% year-on-year. The number of beneficiaries of these services "stands at 14,905,7612 over the period under review". The number of service points, estimated at 4,893, fell by 2.7% compared to the end of June 2018. Over the period under review, the amount of deposits collected stood at 1,441.5 billion FCFA against 1,307 0 billion FCFA a year earlier, an increase of 10.3%. This increase was recorded in Mali (+16.4%), Togo (+14.2%), Côte d'Ivoire (+14.1%), Senegal (+10.5%), Benin ( +5.4%), in Burkina (+3.4%) and in Niger (+1.2%). A drop, on the other hand, "was observed in Guinea Bissau (-33.7%)". The average amount of savings per customer stood at 96,710 FCFA at the end of June 2019 against 87,031 FCFA for the second quarter of 2018. For all WAMU SFDs, the savings collected represent 5.6% of all deposits held by Union credit institutions.
