The analysis of bank activity takes into account assets, deposits collected and loans granted.
Orabank leads the banks operating on Togolese territory with a total balance sheet of 710 billion FCFA in 2020. The gap with its dolphin Ecobank (462 billion FCFA) continues to widen from year to year. The Bank headed by the Cameroonian Guy Awona also remains the leading lender in the economy, with outstanding loans valued at more than 414 billion FCFA. It is also the institution which collects the most deposits – the outstanding amount of funds it has collected having reached more than 366 billion at the end of the same year.
Ecobank maintains its second place on assets as well as deposits. The pan-African bank was snatched from its rank of second lender in 2020 by the Togolese Banking Union (UTB). The public bank - UTB - which is in the process of being privatized, is now the second largest lender in the economy with an outstanding amount of 170 billion FCFA, representing a growth of 9% compared to a year earlier. The gold medal for rapid growth in one year goes to the Togolese subsidiary of Coris Bank International, whose assets grew by more than half (50.9%), supported in part by a 27% jump in deposits collected to 126 billion FCFA. Société Générale, a corporate bank, saw its assets drop slightly (0.53%). The Inter-African Banking Company (SIAB), for its part, continued to unscrew.
