Senegal plans to increase the contribution of the salt sector to its economic growth. The announcement was made during a visit by Minister Abdou Karim Fofana, in charge of monitoring the Emerging Senegal Plan, to several production sites of a company specializing in salt refining.

According to Abdou Karim Fofana, the government is studying ways and means to enable the salt industry to contribute more to the economic growth and development of the country. “We came to listen to the concerns of local actors in the salt sector to study and propose possibilities for its development,” he explained. According to him, salt can allow Senegal to strengthen its economy. Senegal has a very high salt production potential, particularly in the Fatick region. Thus, proposals were going to be made to the Head of State in terms of avenues that could lead to a better contribution of the sector to the economic growth of Senegal.
