During an awareness seminar for magistrates of the Special Criminal Court on cybercrime, Prof. Ebot Ebot Enaw presented bank card fraud as one of the most common cybercrimes in Cameroon.

Besides other crimes such as scamming, phishing, the phenomenon of credit card fraud is quite serious. Better known as “skimming”, bank card fraud consists of fraudulently recovering bank card data from a special device inserted into banknote dispensers, then using this data to duplicate the victims' cards and debit their accounts. The principle consists of introducing a miniaturized camera into the vending machines. Its role is to record the codes and other information contained on the bank card of the customers who scroll through it. As a result, the scammer can recover all this data and make withdrawals from the various accounts.

The other process, used by hackers, takes advantage of the negligence of certain individuals who take it upon themselves to film their bank cards and share the photos on social networks, in particular WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, etc. This, in order to communicate certain information of their bank cards to their relatives. Internet cafes are the favorite haunts of hackers. They spend time there, watching the actions of those who come to make online purchases.
