Niger has launched a call for tenders for the construction of the Gourou Banda solar power plant with a capacity of 50 MW. The country aims to increase its installed capacity, which is currently 284 MW, and to produce 30% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2035.

The Nigerien government has integrated the Scaling Solar program to accelerate the construction of a photovoltaic solar power plant near the capital Niamey. The objective of the program is to encourage private companies to invest in solar energy. The program is expected to ensure rapid implementation of electricity projects through public-private partnerships. This is a prequalification process that will select an independent power producer for the implementation of the project to build a 50 MW solar power plant on the Gourou Banda plateau. The selected company will design, finance, build, install and commission the infrastructure to be installed under the World Bank Group's Scaling Solar program. Interested IPPs have until November 22, 2021 to submit their offers.
