After its establishment in West Africa through Cheki Nigeria and Cheki Ghana, the Nigerian automotive technology company, Autochek, announced on Monday, September 6, the acquisition of Cheki Kenya and Cheki Uganda from Ringier One Africa Media (ROAM) for an undisclosed amount. This new acquisition completes its expansion in East Africa.

“It's natural that our goal is generally to be in all regions. We have made inroads in the East and West, and we will continue to work as we want in North and South Africa,” said Etop Ikpe, CEO of Autochek. For his part, ROAM CEO, Clemens Weitz, commented that: “Autochek is the only player with the best team and the best expertise to truly create a game-changing consumer experience”. For ROAM Africa, he underlines, this agreement is more than a very good transaction. “It frees up even more focus on our strategic playbook for our other businesses,” she adds. Cheki was launched in 2010 as an online classified car for dealers, importers and private sellers in Nigeria. The Lagos-headquartered startup has expanded its operations to Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
