The average weekly volume of transactions, all maturities combined, stood at 461.9 billion in July 2021, down 6% compared to the previous month. These figures were released by the BCEAO in its monthly statistics bulletin

The Bceao informs that under the Uemoa interbank market, the weighted average rate stood at 2.67% during the month under review, compared to 2.59% the previous month and 3.01% in July 2020. Compared with the one-week segment, the average volume of transactions increased from 332.7 billion in June 2021 to 293.1 billion in July 2021. The average interest rate was 2.48% in July 2021, compared to 2.33% the previous month. Bank conditions indicate that bank lending interest rates were stable during July 2021 compared to the previous month. Excluding charges and taxes, the borrowing rate in the Union stood at 6.21% during the month under review. Credit interest rates on term deposits were 5.23% in July 2021, compared to 5.37% the

previous month.

During the month of July 2021, the business climate indicator remained above its long-term trend, indicating a favourable opinion of business leaders on economic developments. It came out at 101.6, almost stable compared to the previous month. Activity indicators remained on the rise during the month under review, reflecting the continued recovery in economic activity. Thus, the retail turnover index rose by 14.2%, over one year, in July 2021, after rising by 17.5% the previous month. Similarly, the turnover index in merchant services rose by 14.3% during the period under review, following an increase of 16.2% a month earlier. In the case of industrial production, the index rose by 8.9% at an annual rate, during the month under review, i.e. the same level as the previous

month.
