Phase 1 of the e-government capacity building project, implemented between 2013 and 2019 in Nigeria, was fully funded by South Korea.
The Nigeria office of KOICA said that this partnership is for the implementation of the “Project to build the foundations of digital governance in Nigeria from 2020 to 2026”. According to her, this project should make it possible to strengthen the capacities for the implementation of the national master plan for electronic governance, to improve the provision of e-government services and to extend them by activating the Government Service Portal, as well as making it easier to obtain the NIN (national identification number) by creating additional registration centres. Isa Pantami, the line minister, said at the signing that the amount of aid granted by KOICA for electronic governance (e-government) was the highest ever granted to his country. He reaffirmed the federal government's desire to promote the establishment of e-government in the country, adding that his ministry was fully ready to realize the ambitions of the new project which aims to accelerate the deployment of measures relating to e -government in Nigeria. Woochan Chang, Country Director of KOICA, meanwhile called for the full activation of the Presidential Council for E-Government, which he sees as an important driver for the operationalization of activities as conceived in the new project. For him, the new activities of the project are closely aligned with the priorities of the National Strategy for the Digital Economy 2020-2030.
