For the first time, a President of the Republic has set foot on the largest wild dump in West Africa (Mbeubeuss), this platform where more than 2,000 waste pickers operate. The President of the Republic, Macky Sall, launched on June 24, 2021, the Project to promote integrated management and the economy of solid waste in Senegal (Promoged).

Senegal is giving itself the means to turn waste into niches for creating jobs and wealth. The effective establishment of waste processing and recovery sectors was marked by the launch of the Project to promote integrated management and the economy of solid waste in Senegal (Promoged). “The Promoged aims to create the best hygiene and public health conditions through the implementation of an integrated national strategy and waste recovery. Thus, we will make our country clean while creating jobs and other income-generating activities", declared the Head of State, in front of a compact crowd and under the cheers of the militants of the political leaders of the Apr, Malika, Keur Massar, Yeumbueul and Boune. From now on, the Mbeubeuss landfill will no longer be the permanent source of greenhouse gas emissions nor of the mountains of waste that pollute the environment and disfigure the urban landscape. The recovery of discards will be a reality. And change will not happen on the backs of waste pickers. “The Promoged will clean up the Mbeubeuss landfill with the installation of a sorting and composting unit. I would like to reassure the waste pickers that their concerns will be taken into account through their retraining in the sector, in compliance with safety standards”, maintained the President of the Republic. Funded to the tune of FCfa 206,182,372,111, Promoged is laying the foundations for a waste recycling industry with beneficial effects on the preservation of the environment.
