The federal government of Nigeria has given the green light to start work to widen the highway that serves Gwarzo (Kano) and Dayi (Katsina), all located in the north. The A9 highway, the interconnection between the states of Kano and Katsina, is strategic for traffic crossing the Sahara

The extension of the A9 highway serves neighboring Niger, a country with which Nigeria is committed to boosting trade. The scope of the project involves the rehabilitation and conversion of this axis into a 90.65 km double-track road. The infrastructure, which connects the two border states with Niger, also includes engineering structures, including the construction of 3 bridges, as well as a number of amenities to facilitate traffic

The execution of the work, which is expected to last 24 months, is entrusted to CGC (China Geo-Engineering Corporation) Nigeria Limited, the subsidiary of the Chinese construction giant CGCOC Group Co. Ltd. The cost of the project is estimated at $153 million, an envelope approved in November 2020 by the Federal Executive Council. This route, due to the location of the two states it serves, is strategic for traffic crossing the Sahara.
