Another African woman joins the Twitter Board of Directors. Last week, the company appointed Mimi Alemayehou, an American of Ethiopian origin, to the company's board of directors as the new independent director

The new director has several years of experience in the field of investments, particularly in emerging markets and especially in Africa. Prior to her appointment at Twitter, the 52-year-old executive worked at the African Development Bank (AfDB), where she represented the United States, and at OPIC, the former name of the American Development Finance Institution (now DFIC), and again at MasterCard, where she was Executive Vice President for Public-Private Partnerships

“Mimi's extensive experience in overseeing the growth of emerging markets in the public and private sectors will be invaluable in furthering Twitter's mission to serve the public conversation around the world,” said Patrick Pichette, chairman of the board of directors of an American company. However, she is not the first African to sit on Twitter's Board of Directors, she will be preceded by Nigeria's Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala
