This is headed by Meriem Belkaid, who joined the group two years ago to prepare for this location. Cellulant has carved out a solid place for itself in the African mobile money landscape through its Tingg transaction management platform.
Nairobi-based fintech Cellulant Corp is heading for Morocco and its burgeoning mobile and online payment market. Like the giant M-Pesa, it allows you to transfer money or pay water or electricity bills. But it also allows you to pay for services from web giants, such as Facebook, Booking.com or Deezer. The service is available in around thirty countries and Cellulant is established in ten countries, all of which are English-speaking (Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, etc.).
The Moroccan central bank Bank Al-Maghrib and the National Telecoms Regulatory Authority clarified the regulatory framework for mobile payment in 2019, and Maroc Telecom, Inwi and Orange have all launched their services, with varying success (AI of 13/ 05/20). But no service comparable to M-Pesa or Tingg yet exists in the kingdom. Cellulant could also seek to get closer to Maroc Telecom, established in ten West African countries.
