The French telephone operator gives its name to the country's second mobile telephone operator, acquired in April 2018 by the Saga Africa Holdings Limited consortium.

Tigo, the second mobile operator in Senegal with 25% market share, changes its name to become Free Senegal. This development, mentioned last June by Jeune Afrique Business +, was confirmed on Tuesday by Mamadou Mbengue, the general manager of Tigo/Free Senegal, during the celebration of the brand's 20th anniversary.

The operator now bears the same name as its French "big brother" Free, founded and run by French billionaire Xavier Niel, whose introduction on the French mobile telephony market in 2012 shook up the market by pulling prices down.
