According to Libération, the German shipping giant was carrying out a fraudulent action to bring 25 tons of plastic waste into Senegal. The illegal cargo of plastic waste was seized on the ship Hansa Neuburg. The company agreed to pay a fine of 2 billion CFA francs and to re-export the products in question. Earlier this week, Greenpeace revealed how the United Kingdom and Germany dumped and burned plastic waste in Turkey. This debacle in West Africa illustrates even more clearly the systematic involvement of that same country in the dumping of plastic waste in marginalized countries
