The Director General of the Café-Cacao Council, Koné Brahima Yves, hosted a press conference on Friday, April 30, 2021 to provide details on the support granted to exporters as part of the 2020-2021 cocoa campaign. It was in the presence of some GNI and GEPEX exporters

.

October 2020 was marked by a second wave of COVID-19 contamination in Europe, and several countries went into lockdown again. According to Koné Brahima Yves, this has created global economic uncertainty, encouraging the fall in international cocoa prices. In this context, global demand in the cocoa sector has not been spared. Buyers (traders, manufacturers and chocolatiers), who lack clarity about the future, have reduced their need for supplies of cocoa beans

on the market.

Under these conditions, the Café-Cacao Council granted, for the two cumulative campaigns, an amount of 10,575,000,000 CFA francs to national and international exporters in support. It is therefore wrong to speak of 20 trillion granted to international explorers at the expense of producers

.

Koné Brahima Yves pointed out that producers directly received more than 500 billion FCFA thanks to the Decent Income Differential (DRD).
