Benin Terminal and the Beninese startup Green Keeper Africa will deploy GKSORB, the first anti-pollution absorbent made in Africa from water hyacinth, on the facilities of the Port of Cotonou container terminal. The partnership agreement was signed on April 1, 2021 in Cotonou.

A specialist in innovative, natural and depolluting solutions, Green Keeper Africa is committed to providing Benin Terminal with 100% organic absorbents to effectively control and manage accidental liquid leaks in the container terminal spaces. The startup will have to train Benin Terminal staff in eco-responsible practices. It will also assess the deployment of the absorbent, recover the oils collected for treatment and propose recommendations to preserve biodiversity within Benin Terminal.

For Fohla Mouftaou and David Gnonlonfoun, founders of the startup Green Keeper Africa, this partnership with a major logistics operator is a consecration for the start-up and offers great hope to Beninese youth. “We are happy to work with a Beninese company and local partners who use natural resources without affecting the country's ecosystem. We are committed to reducing pollution at our facilities as much as possible in order to preserve the environment and develop best practices among our employees,” said Yann Magarian, General Manager of Benin Terminal. A major player in the country's logistics chain, Benin Terminal employs 677 Beninese and is developing a subcontracting policy that generates a thousand indirect jobs.
