On October 1st, Universal Health Coverage will start in first contact health establishments in Côte d'Ivoire. This is one of the main information revealed by Dr Aka Aouélé, Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, this Thursday, September 19 in Abidjan, speaking on major health projects during the 8th edition of "Les Government meeting". For the first health official, the CMU is the insurance policy on which the authorities, assisted by development partners, intend to rely to achieve the vision of making Côte d'Ivoire "a country where every Ivorian can, regardless of their social situation, access quality care in their region". In this, the State has undertaken to pursue actions for the rehabilitation, construction and equipment of health establishments. A mother-child center at the CHU of Cocody, a CHU in the town of Abobo, 5 new emergency services and 6 general hospitals have been announced to improve the care offered. All these initiatives will be accompanied by pharmaceutical reform, through the New Public Health Pharmacy, the aim of which is to make quality medicines available to the populations. "To date, more than 90% of drugs and health inputs are available in all health centers in the country," said Dr. Aka Aouélé, Minister of Health and Public Hygiene. In addition to the main objective to be assigned to it, Universal Health Coverage is also the means by which the Ivorian government intends to fight against clandestine clinics, the sale of counterfeit and street drugs and false health actors. "A Committee for the Fight against Illicit Trafficking and Counterfeiting of Medicines (COTRAMED) has already been set up for this purpose, followed by the forthcoming creation of the Ivorian Agency for Pharmaceutical Regulation", concludes Minister Aka Aouélé.
