Access to the internet and social networks is becoming a reality in Togo thanks to the massive use of mobile telephony. 96% of the population connected to social networks, global communication platforms, uses their mobile phone. Mobile phones are boosting access to the internet and social networks in Togo. An upward trend that emerges from the Digital Report 2021 report by We Are Social and Hootsuite. The study reveals that the total number of internet users in Togo is 1.7 million or 21% of the population.
The country has seen a 14% jump in social media users compared to the latest figures, or 81,000 more people. Of the 650,000 people active on social networks in Togo (7.9% of the population), more than 96% connect via their smartphones.
The platforms most frequented by these populations are: Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp or Twitter. 170,000 Internet users in Togo, largely dominated by men, are present on the LinkedIn professional network.
